Why is our education system producing Grade D mindsets?

Mary Kinyanjui, a researcher at the University of Nairobi, recently penned an article for the Daily Nation on why we are producing gradates with grade D mindsets.


In a way, she is right. In many schools, right after the KCSE results are announced, the prize giving ceremonies follow. As expected, it is the students who scored Grade A and A- that are usually rewarded. And the prizes are usually big, especially for the big schools. At the Nairobi School for example, the top student receives a car. At the Alliance High school, the top student usually receives a cash prize of between kshs.5, 000 and kshs.10, 000.
