| Google +, The new social media platform by Google. |
Google will once again try to get a slice of the social networking pie. Previously, Google had tried to enter the social media scene but all the projects became a cropper. Google buzz did not create the waves it was meant to create and it will be interesting to watch how the social media scene will play out. Right now, facebook and twitter are the run away leaders in social networking. Facebook has over 500 million users, which gives it a great advantage.
Still, some argue that Google+ s merely a compilation of the various features of Google such as Google docs, photo sharing Picasa and search. Google + aims to create a close community, where one will be able to interact with close friends, family members and work colleagues. It has already launched a messaging system that is much more convenient than the facebook one. Facebook, has countered that and in partnership with skype, as launched a new messaging system.
Rather than have a large media briefing during its launch, this time, Google launched the service quietly through a blog and online video, and is slowly inviting members from its waitlist. It will be interesting to see whether Google will replicate its search engine success to the social media.
